On arrival we were advised the double bedded room we had booked was not available and we were offered a twin room as the only option. The hotel receptionist claimed unsuccessful efforts had been made to advise us of the situation before our arrival.

    Good

The room was very good - excellent bathroom - v quirky slant to the room which we liked.

We wanted to eat there but there were 2 people drinking at the bar and absolutely no diners, therefore no atmosphere and obviously not popular.

    Good

    location

Disappointed with tiny room. Only room for one bedside table so nothing to put lamp, drinks on. Tiny wardrobe. Noisey, next to kitchen extractor fan. Room was very dark - had to keep light on so no privacy with people walking by from car park. Was in room 41. Previous visit had a very large bedroom and excellent facilities. Sunday breakfast room was inadequate for number of guests. No room for us. Had to wait 10 mins for a table to be set in another room. No table cloth. Had to ask for napkins, then for side plates, no salt and pepper. Had to ask twice for a cup of tea. Very limited car park facilities - had to park in street for one night. Shame - more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel. Had a drink in bar one evening and asked for crisps. Just served in their packets. Very dark, dull bar.

    Superb

Well pleased with the hotel. Ample space in room 14, including a large shower. Tudor woodwork. Quiet. Good food for both breakfast and dinner.

Bed quite firm and quilt just reached the side edges of the bed.

The worst hotel we have ever visited. Booked weeks in advance, but given such a room we couldn't stay in- dismal, dirty and bleak-& close to an access door leading from the main car park. Not only that, but it was our honeymoon! On politely complaining to the receptionist, we were told that the hotel was fully booked! Eventually we were given the only room available- kept free for the next day for a bride who had paid a premium to have early access. Breakfast was awful- cold cooked food,a trek down the room for milk, butter, etc. and the waitress clearing the table next to ours shook the dirty tablecloth and the replaced it otherside up!

See above! The hotel was awful,- dirty, tired and sad. The staff we came into contact with were clearly embarrassed, and did their best to save the situation. Howver, we would never recommend this hotel, or indeed stay there again.

A beautiful building with original and tasteful decor.

    Very good

Friendly staff Great view over river

Old buildings are naturally dark but there is no need to make it darker still with the decor.

    Location and comfort of rooms.

The evening meal we had was not as enjoyable as it could have been,

    Exceptional

Staff, atmosphere, food, room size and virtually everything else were all first rate.

Perhaps the pillows could have been a little more substantial.
